Samstag, Juli 08, 2006 Discrimination, no?4 of us got all geared up for a night out at dbl-o last wednesday when something odd happened. We were just waiting to go into the club when the staff at the entrance pointed at my friend and to put it in her exact words, said: "Sorry, she cannot go in. She's not in proper attire" My friend was in a tee, jeans and sneakers. I gave her a quizzical look. "Erm what do you mean by not in proper attire? She's in jeans and covered shoes. Then what constitutes a proper attire?" Gesturing to her own skimpy top, she explained with a tinge of impatience "Proper attire is like you, and myself, no tee shirt allowed". Now this friend of mine is slightly tomboyish. She has a short cropped haircut and was in a medium sized tee and jeans. And she's also one of my closest friends, so i began to get a lil agitated, but before i could say anything, they led us out of the queue with a hell lot of question marks on the top of our heads and next thing we knew, we were on a cab heading to club momo instead. There, they let my friend in, but not without a gentle reminder: "Next time, dress more feminine hor" Is it me, or is something wrong here? I understand that the purpose of ladies' night is to attract more women so that they'll in turn attract men and therefore increase sales blah blah, but does one have to be skimpily dressed to be attractive? And who are they to decide on a benchmark of beauty? So they refuse entrance to girls in tees and jeans. And as far as i've seen, most butches dress like that. So isn't what they're doing a discrimination against butches? Correct me if i'm wrong, but some guys like tomboyish girls, hell some even like watching lesbian action, how could you automatically assume that guys won't be attracted to a girl in tee and jeans? This doesn't really concern me, but it is oddly disturbing. P.S: Screw you dbl-O, for being so rude. Screw you and your cheap drinks. I'm never going back there again. Something to say? =) | | Permalink
